Adventure Play to close

PERKINS TWP. — An embattled indoor youth-first recreation park informed the public on Wednesday about its intent to shut down. "After much prayer, reflection and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to announce the closure of Adventure Play," according to a statement from Adventure Play, noting it takes immediate effect. The statement didn't identify who made this post nor did it cite a reason for why it's shutting down. "All future booked parties will receive full refunds, and all current membership payments have ended," the post read. Adventure Play, located on Milan Road (U.S. 250) in the Sandusky area within a plaza beside Lowe's Home Improvement and Staples, came under fire earlier this year. In February, Perkins police charged Adventure Play's owner, Robert L. Stein, 42, of the 3200 block of Stonewood Drive. He's facing a fifth-degree felony count of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles. Stein allegedly exchanged sexually explicit images and videos with a minor in late January, according to Perkins police Detective Joseph Rotuno. The exchanges took place over the social media app Snapchat. Stein and the minor interacted over Snapchat on Jan. 26, police said. Rotuno said the minor later came to the realization that the conversation was inappropriate and reached out to a friend. After being jailed on a $5,000 bond, he made his initial court appearance in mid-February. His docket does not list any upcoming court dates. This past month, Adventure Play made a statement to reassure people it would remain open. Many replies from locals criticized the organization, questioning whether this facility could keep children safe going forward. Wednesday's post didn't address this situation either. "While this chapter is closing, we believe the location and concept still hold great potential," according to the post from Adventure Play, which opened in early 2025. "We are currently seeking credible and qualified buyers who may be interested in continuing or redeveloping the business and its opportunities. Parties with serious interest are encouraged to reach out for further information." The post ended by Adventure Play expressing its gratitude to community members. "We will always be thankful for the memories made here," according to the post, which didn't allow comments.
