Fire damages Pearl St. home

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky apartment building was damaged by fire on Tuesday night. Just before 8 p.m., first responders were called to the 500 block of Pearl St. for the report of a fully-involved structure fire. When they arrived, firefighters were met with flames licking out of a second-floor window. Less than 10 minutes after the alarm was raised, firefighters determined no one was in the structure and were able to knock down the interior fire, according to a Sandusky fire report. No residents, pets or firefighters were injured, according to Sandusky fire Capt. Jason Roesch. After extinguishing the fire, commanders asked for the fire marshal to report to the scene to investigate. A fire report listed a heater as a possible cause, but the fire department did not officially determine a cause as of Wednesday evening, according to fire chief Mario D'Amico. Power was disconnected from the structure and the Red Cross was called to assist at least four residents find alternate housing. Between contents and the structure, the estimated loss in value was pegged at $105,000.
