Carol Ann Adler

Carol Ann Adler, 79, of Huron, passed away April 17, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain.Carol was born Jan. 21, 1937, in Toledo to Reva and Martin Greunke.She attended Scott High School and studied for one year at the University of Toledo.Through mutual friends, she was introduced to Robert Adler, and they were married on June 27, 1959, in Gesu Church in Toledo. They soon moved to Huron, where Bob was a teacher for many years at Huron High School, and began raising a family.While her children were growing up, Carol ran a day care out of her home for kids, providing them with warm, fun memories of the Adler household. She kept the children busy with games and crafts, readings from classic storytime books, dress-up time, excursions to the beach with the family Airdale, Homer, field trips in the station wagon to the train station, Muppet songs on the record player and ice cream treats at the Pied Piper.Carol then sold medical supplies for Home Medical Systems in Sandusky, and then embarked in a career in fundraising and marketing for several local nonprofit groups.She was executive director of the Sandusky Chapter of the American Red Cross and director of the American Cancer Society, where her duties included bringing awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco use. She also was a fundraiser for the Lung Association and administrator for the Erie County Medical Society.She retired in 1997 and spent time with her family. She loved to ride her bicycle, swim and sunbathe at Nickel Plate Beach, and walk with friends and family in Huron.Carol volunteered at Stein Hospice in Sandusky and was a 55-year member at St. Peter Church, Huron, where she taught CCD classes and belonged to the Altar Rosary Society.She leaves behind her husband, Robert Adler; son, Bryan (Sharon) Adler; son, Kirk (Andrea) Adler; daughter, Julie Hartten; grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley and Austin Adler, and Spencer and Ashley Dukeman; sisters, Susan (Mike) Cunningham and Marti (Terry) Wells; and brother, Edward (Sandy) Greunke.We loved Carol with all our hearts. Her motto was family first, and she demonstrated that to her family and friends every day. A more beloved wife, mother, sister, grandparent or friend did not exist. Our angel has gone home.Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St, Huron, where Wake Services will be at 7:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron.The family asks that contributions be made to Mercy New Life Hospice or St. Peter Catholic Church in lieu of flowers.Condolences may be shared at fosterfh.com.
