SANDUSKY There's no doubt that gaming in every form plays an intricate part in entertainment around the world.Escape rooms are one of the newest forms of gaming and have taken the country by storm since the beginning of the decade. In a nutshell, escape rooms are live action adventure games in which participants become part of the game they play.Typically, escape rooms take a storyline of some sort and design a room around that foundation. They incorporate puzzles, riddles and clues into elements of the room for participants to solve within a set time frame, in order for them to "escape" the room and win the game.After trying his hand at an escape room with his wife in New York on vacation several years back, one local man decided to this phenomena should be brought home. Jeff Danevich founded Sandusky's first live action adventure company, "Whodini's Great Adventures" with the goal of providing the area with a form of entertainment it had yet to experience."We use the word "adventures" rather than "escape" because we don't want to be locked into just being an escape room," Danevich explained.Whodini's Great Adventures debuts their first adventure room, "The Game Room," at 6 p.m. Friday inside Soda Pops candy store on Water Street in historic downtown Sandusky."The Game Room" is in Soda Pop's game room and has more than a dozen brain teasing clues hidden throughout that need to be solved to obtain a secret code to win the game."It takes teamwork and communication," Danevich said with a smile. " Everything is potentially a clue but nothing needs to be forced."Being selected to test out the innovative game room was nerve wracking, but the feeling of uncertainty quickly faded as the excitement grew. It's not often forms of entertainment evoke real thought and challenge you to think and solve problems, all the while remaining fun.Whodini's Great Adventures' challenge, "The Game Room" is perfect for a date night, an evening out with friends or an afternoon adventure with the whole family.Those who wish to play can sign up for different difficulty levels, some offering more hints than others. You need a minimum of two people to play but can have up to eight people on a team. Reservations can be made during the gaming hours of 6-10 p.m. Fridays and noon-10 p.m. Saturdays.
