Update: Patrol IDs those killed in crash

VERMILION TWP. — Two people died in an early Friday morning crash in Vermilion Township. Just after 2 a.m., first responders were called to the 11400 block of W. Lake Road (U.S. 6) in Volunteer Bay for the report of a single-vehicle crash. A person who called dispatchers said there were two people in the vehicle and they were not moving. The caller also stated that the airbags deployed. A release issued by the Ohio State Highway Patrol Friday afternoon provided more details: • Rickey Morgan, 49, of Vermilion, was driving a 2008 Honda Accord on the road heading west. • Morgan drove off the right side of the road, overcorrected, re-entered the road before again driving off the right side and striking two signs and a tree. • Both Morgan and a front seat passenger — Robert Senn Jr., 65, of Vermilion — were pronounced dead at the scene. • Troopers said that the men were not wearing seat belts and that alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. West Lake Road was closed between Poorman and Barnes roads for about two hours.
