PREP ROUNDUP: Edison's Leimeister shoots past 1,000 career points in tournament win

OAK HARBOR — Edison pulled a mild upset with a 60-50 win over Oak Harbor in a Division V boys basketball tournament opener Wednesday. Cole Leimeister led the ninth-seeded Chargers with 22 points. Coltyn Meagrow added 21 points. The two senior standouts combined for 22 points in the fourth quarter as Edison fended off the seventh-seeded Rockets (8-15). Leimeister surpassed 1,000 career points early in the fourth quarter and is at 1,009 for his career. He needs one 3-pointer to break the program record in that category. Edison trailed by two points at halftime and was tied 35-35 after three quarters before outscoring the Rockets 25-15 over the final eight minutes. Zach Hallett led Oak Harbor with 19 points. The Chargers, who improved to 11-12, will travel to Margaretta for a second round game at 7 p.m. Friday. Branin Natatorium. Drury was in fifth place after the prelims at 188.30 points. She climbed to fourth after the semifinals before finishing the competition with 367.20 total points, good for All-Ohio honors. Wauseon's Kali Spengler was the state champion with 442.10 points. Huron's Hadley Barkema finished 11th in the 32-diver field. Barkema had a total score of 344.45. The field was cut to 20 divers after the prelims and 16 heading into the finals.
