Port Clinton names Huntley as new head football coach

PORT CLINTON — Kevin HuntLey took over Port Clinton's track & field program last summer. Now he's adding football to a busy coaching schedule. Huntley was named head football coach at Port Clinton High School on Monday. He will take over for Eric Leuthold, who recently was named head coach at Clyde after leading the PC program for four years. "We are very excited to officially name Coach Huntley as our next head football coach," said PC athletic director Alex Sheridan in a news release. "Over the past two seasons, he has demonstrated outstanding leadership, organization and a clear vision for our program." Huntley has taught at Port Clinton Middle School since 2024 and has worked as an assistant football coach at the varsity level. He was the Redskins' defensive coordinator last season. Huntley is a Fremont native and graduated from St. Joseph High School, where he was a standout in football, basketball and track. He was inducted into the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame for his track accomplishments. He played football at the University of Wisconsin and also participated in track. Huntley was a four-year starter in football, a senior team captain and member of Big Ten Championship track teams in 1994, 1996 and 1997, competing in the 110 hurdles and 4x100 relay. He graduated in 1998. Before coming to Port Clinton, Huntley spent 10 seasons coaching football at Nova High School in Davie, Florida — seven of them as head coach. Under his leadership, Nova made playoff appearances in 2015 and 2017 and won a district championship in 2017 with a 9-1 regular season record. During his tenure, 25 players advanced to college football. "As a former head coach, he brings valuable experience and a proven track record of success," Sheridan said. "He understands our community and the pride that comes with representing Port Clinton. He has earned the respect of our coaching staff and players, and we are thrilled to have him lead our football program." Huntley played for the Kansas City Chiefs and spent three seasons playing in the Arena Football League. "PC has a sense of pride that is clear in how the kids compete across the various sports," Huntley told the Register after being named track coach last summer. "Like every kid, they want to experience success and I think the community supports that willingness by showing up and acknowledging them for their successes."
