Officers worked multiple crashes

Local law enforcement had its hands full Sunday night into Monday morning as wind-driven snow caused numerous crashes throughout Erie County. Here's a recap: Incident No. 1 At about 8:50 p.m., first responders were called to Mudbrook Road (Ohio 13) just south of Ohio 2. That is near the entrance to the Thunderbird South golf course. A Ford SUV reportedly overturned and had two occupants trapped within. They were able to get out. It is unclear if either was transported by ambulance. The Ohio State Highway Patrol handled the investigation and its report was not published as of late Monday. Incident No. 2 Just before 9:30 p.m., deputies were called to the intersection of Bardshar Road and Tiffin Avenue (Ohio 101) for the report of a two-vehicle crash. As of late Monday, the report is not uploaded and it is unclear if anyone was injured in the wreck. Incident No. 3 At about 9:45 p.m., deputies were again called on for a traffic crash, this time at the Ohio 4 roundabout. A 34-year-old Sandusky man was southbound on Ohio 4 when he drove onto a divider in the roundabout. The vehicle eventually came to a rest and could not move under its own power. The man was cited for failure to control. Incident No. 4 About an hour and a half later, another vehicle crashed in the roundabout. A 23-year-old Lorain woman was southbound, failed to negotiate a curve, went off the road and struck a utility pole. The car then spun and came to a rest facing northbound. A four-year-old passenger was injured and taken to Firelands Hospital by North Central EMS. The driver was cited for failure to control. Incident No. 5 Just after 1 a.m., first responders were called to Ohio 2 near the Joppa Road underpass for the report of a vehicle fire. Vermilion Township firefighters, with assistance from Berlin Township, extinguished the flames. A state trooper on the scene said the driver was okay. A report was unavailable as of Monday evening. Incident No. 6 Just before 5 a.m., a two-vehicle crash was reported on Ohio 2 near Homegardner Road in Margaretta Township. Investigation of the crash was transferred to troopers from the sheriff's office. Incident No. 7 At about 7:30 a.m., a semi went off the road from Ohio 113 near Peru Center Road in Oxford Township. A heavy wrecker was able to get the truck unstuck. Incident No. 8 Just after 8 a.m., a 23-year-old Norwalk man was southbound on Ohio 101 in a Kia Rio. The SUV hit a patch of ice and slid off the road into the tree lawn of a property near an automobile business in the 2400 block. The driver was cited for failure to control. Incident No. 9 8:29 a.m. — A Mustang slid off the road in the 10200 block of Portland Road in Groton Township. Incident No. 10 11:05 a.m. — A semi truck and a pickup truck were involved in a crash on Ohio 113 near Peru Center Road. The pickup truck was westbound on Ohio 113 between Peru Center and Strong Ridge roads when its driver lost control and the pickup slid into the path of the eastbound semi. The driver of the pickup was treated at the scene.
