OLD FORT — The Margaretta boys basketball team trailed after one quarter before cruising to a 71-53 Sandusky Bay Conference crossover win against Old Fort on Friday. Keiygan Morris led Margaretta (19-3) with 20 points. Tyson Bailey finished with 19 points and Judah Keller added 18 points for the Polar Bears, who are ranked No. 3 in the state in Division V. The Polar Bears are off until next Friday when they host the winner of the Oak Harbor-Edison game in their tournament opener in Castalia. The loss avenged a two-point loss at Woodmore earlier this season and boosted SMCC's final regular season record to 18-4 overall and 12-3 in the SBC River Division. Cayden Wikel led SMCC with 17 points and Gabe Burch added nine points. Perry's final point clinched Monroeville's first league title since 1984. The Eagles improved to 16-5 overall and 11-3 in the FC. Monroeville has won nine straight games. SC fell to 10-12, 4-10. SWIMMING West, Perkins relay advance to state BOWLING GREEN — Perkins senior Ella West was the only area individual to automatically advance from Friday's girls Division II district swim meet at Bowling Green State University. The top two finishers from each race in each of the state's four districts automatically qualify for next week's state meet. The top 24 at-large times from the four districts combined also will advance and will be announced Sunday. West took second in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:15.27. Lima Shawnee's Morgan Schimmoeller won in 2:13.99. West added a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1:06.95. Less than a second separated West from Ottawa-Glandorf's Autumn Steffen, who won in 1:06.32. The Pirates' 200 free relay team also advanced by taking second. The group of West, Jasele Ninke, Natalie Mitchel and Hayley Henning touched the wall in 1:42.62, just behind Ontario, which won in 1:41.08. In the 50 free, Port Clinton's Gabrielle Heilman was eighth in 25.16 seconds while Henning took 10th in 25.54. In the 100 free, Heilman was eighth in 56.22 while Henning was 13th in 56.78. Port Clinton's Halle Puffenberger was eighth in the 200 free. She touched the wall in 2:05.29. Perkins' Lo Bucher finished 11th in the 100 back in 1:05.31. Rylie Towns was ninth in the 100 butterfly for Huron in 1:04.43. Perkins' relays added a pair of top-10 finishes. The 200 medley quartet finished sixth in 1:54.69 while the 400 free took ninth in 3:54.13. Morgan moves on BOWLING GREEN — Clyde senior Eli Morgan was the only individual male from the area to advance to the state meet. Morgan was second in the 500 free in a time of 4:41.75. Ottawa Hills' Thomas Lathrop took the victory in 4:36.49. Perkins' Max Zess was seventh in the 500 free in a time of 5:00.84. Morgan and Zess also faced off in the 200 free. Morgan took fourth, touching the wall in 1:45.00 while Zess was eighth in 1:50.01. Vermilion's Cole Rini came in third in the 100 breast in 59:03. He added an eighth-place finish in the 200 individual medley, touching in 2:00.92. Port Clinton's 400 free relay took third in a time of 3:21.34 while the 200 free relay was fifth in 1:31.83. Individually for the Redskins, Lee Higgins was seventh in the 100 free, finishing in 49.19. Also for PC, Wyatt Siefke was seventh in the 100 butterfly in 55.37 while Norwalk's Lincoln Snyder was eighth in 55.55. GIRLS WRESTLING Clyde tops Whitmer on Senior Night CLYDE — Needing two pins in the final two matches, the Fliers got just that in a 24-23 dual match win over Toledo Whitmer on Thursday. Clyde trailed 23-12 over a Panthers technical fall at 125 pounds. Mallory Meggitt pinned Whitmer's Teriyah Mays in 1:47 to bring the Fliers within 23-18. Then, Samantha Young wrapped up the dual with a pin in 1:53 over Whitmer's Aislynn Schmenk to secure the win. Also winning for Clyde was Avery Gaskalla at 100 and Meredith Greenslade at 120.
