$400K more for local health center

CASTALIA — A forthcoming local health facility received additional aid from the state government to care for students, staff members and so many other school stakeholders. The Erie County Health Department and the Erie County Community Health Center recently secured $400,000, coming from the Ohio Department of Health, to establish what's known as a school-based health center in Castalia. More specifically, it'll be located within the present-day Margaretta Schools board of education building at 305 S. Washington St. leading into Lions Park. These school district offices previously relocated to Bogart Elementary School but should move again amid the ongoing district-wide transition as construction work continues on Margaretta's new preK-12 building, presently under construction, on West Lucas Street (Ohio 101). The $400,000 adds to the $500,000 previously banked toward this initiative. Going forward, the health department locked down $900,000 in state funds to fully cover start-up and many initial operating costs without any local tax dollars committed. Officials aggressively pursued state grants to provide much-needed care for locals, noting this "marks a major step forward in expanding accessible health care for students and local families," according to a health department statement. Regarding the $400,000, this grant most notably paid for three fully equipped dental chairs, "allowing students from both Margaretta Schools and Townsend Community School to receive preventive and restorative dental care directly on site," the statement read. "Community members will also be able to access comprehensive health and dental services through the center."
