Washington named top player in SBC Bay Division

For the second year in a row, Margaretta's Julian Washington was named the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division's Most Outstanding Performer. The senior, who is committed to playing college basketball at the University of Dayton, has led the Polar Bears to an 18-3 record and league championship for the third straight year. Washington is averaging 25 points and six rebounds a game for Margaretta, which wraps up its regular season Friday at Old Fort. He was joined on the first team by teammate Judah Keller, Willard's Jaxson Hall, Huron's Quentin Conway and Edison's Coltyn Meagrow. Hall is second in the league at 21.5 points a game while Meagrow is fourth at 18 points per contest. Conway leads the Tigers with 15.9 points per game while Keller is averaging 13.1 points and 4.2 assists. Columbian junior Logan Gooding was named the SBC Lake Division's top player. He leads the league in scoring at 21.5 points per game for the Tornadoes, who enter Friday's home against Clyde with a record of 10-11. Gooding was accompanied on the first team by Perkins' Kellen Glass, Sandusky's Dale Johnson and Bellevue's Sam Bollinger and Ike Brown. Johnson is putting up 16 points and 7.4 rebounds a game for the Blue Streaks (13-7), who have a chance to win their fifth straight league title Wednesday when they travel to Bellevue. Glass has Perkins in a position to also share a piece of the league championship when it hosts Norwalk on Friday. Glass is contributing 13.6 and 6.4 rebounds for the state-ranked Pirates (18-2). Bollinger is tallying 12.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while Brown adds 12.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists a night. Gibsonburg junior Reece Walby took home the SBC River Division Most Outstanding Player award. Walby is averaging 17.8 points and 6.1 rebounds a game for the Golden Bears (18-2), who are on the cusp of a league title. Area honorees for the SBC River Division were St. Mary Central Catholic's Cayden Wikel on the first team and Danbury's Frankie Kovach and SMCC's Leo Will on the second team. Wikel leads the Panthers at 12.7 points a night while Kovach leads the league in scoring at 25.9 points per game. Will backs Wikel with 8.9 points a contest.
