Chief outlines fire levy issue

Dear Huron community members, The Huron Fire Department is proposing a fire levy to ensure our department can continue protecting the lives and property of everyone in our community. For nearly three decades, our firefighters have responded to emergencies with dedication and professionalism, even as costs have risen and equipment has aged. During that time, we have worked carefully to stretch every dollar, maintain aging apparatus and meet increasing service demands without requesting additional funding from our residents. Today, however, we face critical needs that can no longer be postponed. This levy will provide funding for: • Replacement and maintenance of essential fire apparatus and emergency response vehicles • Updated lifesaving equipment and protective gear • Ongoing facility and equipment maintenance • Adequate staffing levels to ensure safe and timely emergency response Reliable emergency services are fundamental to a safe and thriving community. Response times, firefighter safety, and overall preparedness all depend on maintaining minimum staffing levels, properly trained crews and dependable equipment. We understand the gravity of this proposal. It is, however, a necessary investment in the continued safety and protection of our families, homes and businesses. Please get out and vote on May 5.
