Allan Richard Slyker

Allan Richard Slyker, 90, of Holly Hill, Fla., formerly of Lighthouse Point, Fla., and Huron, passed away Jan. 4, 2016, under the care of Halifax Health Hospice Ormond Beach.Mr. Slyker was born in Sandusky on May 27, 1925, and proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II as a medic. He was on active duty from Aug. 26, 1943, to April 10, 1946, and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Asian Pacific War Medal. He was a graduate of Huron High School, class of 1943.With his wife, Sarah B. Slyker, who predeceased him in 2008, he owned and operated the HHH Bar & Grill and then the Knotty Pine Restaurant. They were both a part of the "old downtown" and worked hard for over 10 years to leave their mark on the history of Huron. Mr. Slyker retired from the United States Post Office in 1987. Mr. Slyker's father, George, owned and operated GJ Slyker Pool Hall for many years, also on Main Street.He was also preceded in death by his mother, Lorena Phelps Slyker, in 1942; his father, George J., in 1968; and his brother, Ralph E. Slyker, in 1998.He is survived by his stepsons, Roger (Mary Beth) France of Buena Vista, Colo., and John P. "J.P." Jones of Ormond Beach, Fla.; grandsons, Ryan (Danielle) France of Golden, Colo., Mason France of Denver, Colo.; granddaughters, Robin (Tom) Harms of Durango, Colo., and Megan (Matt) Stacy of Denver. Also surviving him are great-grandchildren, Tyler Harms, Riley Harms, Micah France and Adrian France.No memorial service is planned, and cremation has already taken place.To honor Mr. and Mrs. Slyker, please make donations to the Allan & Sarah Slyker Memorial Fund, c/o Huron High School Alumni Association, 710 Cleveland Road W., Huron, OH, 44839.
