Vanguard students win real-world competition

MONROEVILLE — Janotta & Herner developed and designed what's known as the bidders challenge competition to give students in the building and electrical trades hands-on experience with the many elements of a real-life construction project. This would include aspects of planning, cost-estimating, public speaking, problem-solving and teamwork. "Each year, we bring this project to life as a competitive, real-world experience that connects the classroom to our industry," according to a statement from the general contracting business based in Monroeville. "This year, 17 teams from across the district stepped up to the challenge, showcasing their skills, preparation and professionalism," it added. "We're proud to recognize this year's winning team from Vanguard-Sentinel Career and Technology Centers' electrical trades program. Their presentation impressed our judges, and they were awarded a bag of tools to support their future in the trades. We were also honored to donate $1,000 to support the program." Janotta & Herner does this because, "Investing in the next generation of skilled trades professionals is something we truly believe in. Congratulations to all of the students who participated."
