State agency awaiting autopsy results in marina incident

PUT-IN-BAY — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is awaiting official autopsy results from the Lucas County Coroner's office to help their investigation into a man's death at Miller Marina last month, spokesperson Eric Heis said.On June 16, Dublin resident Evan T. Currie, 19, died soon after he was electrocuted at the island marina.Around 6:30 p.m., Currie and his family docked their boat at Miller Marina and plugged the shore power to the boat. But soon after, the family's dog fell in the water and began to struggle, the report stated.The victim's father, Jeffrey Currie, jumped in and struggled as well, slipping below the water's surface. Currie and his brother jumped in to assist the dog and their father, but also struggled.Within minutes, the victim's mother heard bystanders shout to unplug the shore power. When she did, the electrical current in the water stopped and everyone got back on the boat except for Evan, who was "unresponsive and convulsing," the report said.Soon, CPR was performed on Currie and the family transported him to the mainland in Port Clinton, but treatment was unsuccessful.The results of the toxicology tests are pending and will be ready in about 12 weeks through the Ottawa County Coroner's Office. The toxicology tests and preliminary autopsy were performed on June 19, according to the Lucas County Coroner's office.ODNR Division of Parks & Watercraft took possession of the involved boat and associated equipment. Soon after the incident, all power outlets on the dock were found to be in proper order and functioning normally during a reenactment performed by an electrician, a press release from Miller Marina stated."The entire staff at Miller Marina and the Market family is deeply saddened by the tragic death of a guest at our marina on June 16.
