Pier crash injures 1

SANDUSKY — A motor vehicle crash at the Jackson Street Pier sent one person to the hospital on Monday afternoon. Just before 4:30 p.m., first responders were called to the pier for the report of a crash. When they arrived, they found one vehicle, a sedan, with heavy driver-side damage parked in the roundabout. The driver told officers she was leaving the pier southbound when a northbound vehicle entered the roundabout the wrong way at a high rate of speed and struck her car before fleeing the scene, according to a Sandusky police report. The driver of the second vehicle was found a short distance away and was detained during a traffic stop. One adult from the struck vehicle was transported to the hospital with a cut, the report states. Another adult and a child were not injured. An officer transported them to their home, as the vehicle was not drivable. The alleged at-fault driver was found not to possess a valid operator's license. The driver, a 21-year-old Sandusky man, was cited for driving under suspension, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless operation and OVI.
