PREP ROUNDUP: Perkins makes quick work of winless North Olmsted

PERKINS TWP. — The Perkins boys basketball team ran past winless North Olmsted 69-33 on Tuesday to build some momentum heading into a big Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division matchup against Bellevue later this week. Sam Schweinfurth scored 16 points to lead the Pirates, who improved to 17-2 and are ranked No. 10 in the state in Division IV. Kellen Glass added 15 points for Perkins, which led 33-17 at halftime before putting away the non-conference win with a 24-point third quarter. Anthony D'Allesandro and Dominic Martin each had eight points for North Olmsted, a Division II program. Perkins hosts Bellevue on Friday. The Pirates are 7-1 in the SBC Lake and need a win to keep pace with Sandusky, which also is 7-1. The Redmen are 5-3 in the SBC. The Pirates had a team total of 3259. Perkins had the best score after three regulation games (2304) before rolling the best baker game (955). Huron finished third with a 2990 total to join Perkins at next week's district tournament. The top four teams and top four individuals not on an advancing team qualified for the district tourney. Margaretta's Brooke Hastings was the sectional medalist with a 631 series. She had steady games of 202 of 204 before finishing with the best game of the sectional — a 225. Perkins' Olivia Lizzy took second with a 554 series (207,155, 192). Perkins' Paige Loris was sixth with a 517 (194, 162, 186) while Pirates Cheyenne Stamm (441) and Oliviana Coffman (432) placed 18th and 19th, respectively. Three other area bowlers advanced for district play as individuals. Vermilion's Bella Phillips finished fifth with a 530 series. Edison's Ella Rogers was ninth with a 498 and Port Clinton's Adrianna Taylor placed 11th with a 463. Huron's top finishers were Rachel Merckens (seventh, 501), Lily Berner (10th, 466) and Anastasia Sheppard (12th, 459). Eastwood was second in the 12-team competition with a 3022 and Willard finished fourth with a 2975. Edison just missed out on advancing with a fifth-place finish (2885).
