Sandusky Library getting into America 250 spirit

SANDUSKY — The Sandusky Library, 114 W. Adams St., recently previewed some highlights from its February programming calendar. America 250 programs • At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, join the library for an event, African Americans in Sandusky Before the Civil War, presented by the library's local historian, Ron Davidson. • At noon on Feb. 17, bring a packed lunch and learn about The Great Railroad Strike. Mark Strecker will explore this almost unknown bit of Ohio history. Get creative • From 2-3 p.m. on Feb. 14, celebrate Galentine's Day with friends. Enjoy snacks, crafts and other book-related activities to unwind and connect. • At 10 a.m. on Feb. 19, take part in our first series of art workshops presented by UNDRSTR founder, Darian Shepherd. Registration is required, as supplies are limited. Films • At 2 p.m. on Feb. 21, watch the documentary "Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am" and learn about the Lorain, Ohio, native and Pulitzer-Prize-winning author. • At 2 p.m. on Feb. 28, discover the hidden effects of plastic pollution in the Great Lakes in the library program room with Erie Conservation District and Erie MetroParks exclusive viewing of "Ripples of Plastic." For children and families • This month's Science Saturday is all about the heart. Explore the circulatory system through fun experiments from 10-11 a.m. on Feb. 21. Families must register, as space is limited. • Children ages 10 to 13 will have the opportunity to learn all about stargazing and leave with their very own working telescope at 3 p.m. on Feb. 23 during a Terrific Telescope Workshop with local astronomy educator, Mitch Lumen. Registration is required, as supplies are limited. • Join in on the fun with Snowed In Saturday at 10 a.m. on Feb. 28, complete with snacks, games, crafts and even some karaoke.
