Tea Bubble pops up in Huron

HURON — A woman aspires for her new eatery, The Tea Bubble, to blow up in a big way. After experiencing great success with her food truck at festivals this past year in Erie and Huron counties, boasting the same Tea Bubble branding, Mary Demuth decided to roll over her mobile business into a storefront. Along with her friend and business partner, Thu Nong, Demuth recently opened her Huron-based establishment at 511 Cleveland Road W. within Port Huron Plaza. It's beside Cameo Pizza and the Huron Market. The Tea Bubble specializes in bubble or boba teas. Originating from Taiwan, they're colder drinks incorporating chewy pearls or balls. "That is what we are known for," said Demuth, noting her truck could only sell drinks. But now, with a brick-and-mortar location, she can also prepare food. Demuth, who quit her agricultural job to focus on The Tea Bubble full-time, makes two different types of bubble teas featuring: • A milk tea with tapioca, "which we cook all of it in-house and is a long process, but a lot of people don't offer that because it's time-consuming and hard to do," she said. • Those filled with fruit; "We have mango, strawberry, passionfruit, raspberry, and we make all of those in-house, too. We came up with all of our own recipes. They are very refreshing, light and easy to drink. Other places don't taste quite like ours." Beyond drinks, which include smoothies as well, customers at The Tea Bubble can order homemade soups, paninis, spring rolls, avocado toasts, salads, build-your-own acai and Greek yogurt bowls, desserts and more. It also offers specials, such as bubble waffles and breakfast burritos, on Saturday mornings. "We try to do everything as fresh as we can," said Demuth, who's originally from Berlin Heights but lives in Wakeman today. "I enjoy doing this here in a touristy, nice, little town right by the water." Demuth encourages people to stop by and sample any item on her menu. Right now, people can visit The Tea Bubble from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. "If you are coming here, you definitely won't be disappointed," said Demuth, who plans on operating her food truck this summer simultaneously with the storefront.
