Update: Woman killed in Sandusky

Update 8:35 p.m. Sandusky police confirmed a person was killed at the residence. Chief Jared Oliver released this statement: At approximately 5:38 p.m., officers were dispatched to 700 Sycamore St. for a report of a shooting. Upon entering the residence, officers were confronted by a male suspect, Jerry Watkins, (age 37), who was armed with a knife. Watkins retreated to the second floor and barricaded himself inside a room. Officers located an adult female inside the residence who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. She was removed from the scene and, with the assistance of the Sandusky Fire Department, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, she later succumbed to her injuries. Following a brief standoff, officers and members of the special response team took Watkins into custody. He had suffered apparent self‑inflicted injuries and was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. This incident remains under investigation. Update 7:25 p.m. A man inside the building exited the structure and appeared to be in police custody. He appeared to be wounded and bleeding, the cause of which was not immediately clear. It's believed he was being transported from the area to a hospital. Exactly what occurred remained unclear, and it also wasn't clear if anyone else remained inside the building. Update 7:15 p.m. There appeared to be a standoff between police and a person on the upper floor of a house in the area. Police could be seen firing canisters of tear gas into the residence, and a person could be seen sticking their hands out of a window. Officers were then seen bringing a ladder to the house.
