Career center celebrates milestone

MILAN TWP. — EHOVE Career Center and its superintendent, Chris McCully, recently announced a major breakthrough in its ongoing multimillion-dollar facility project. The most notable update: The first set of steel needed for this project arrived at the Milan-area campus. "Seeing this milestone makes it feel real that our school is about to have a huge transformation for the future," McCully said online. The steel will be used for the first portion of the project, according to McCully. Starting the project The career center previously celebrated the start of the project with a groundbreaking ceremony in October. Stakeholders and building project partners came together to celebrate the start of this $210 million expansion and renovation project. The project is expected to finish in three to four years, or, in other words, administrators hope it will be ready for the start of the 2029-30 school year. McCully has previously stated that the need for campus updates came from the size and age of the career center. A majority of the campus stood from its original construction, which dates back to the 1960s. The project will grow the campus to nearly double in size and will include fresh builds, renovations and accommodate more high school and adult students with state-of-the-art labs. Improvements will be made to the campus' infrastructure, security and its access to local businesses and the community. The project also means more programs. EHOVE plans to add classes for those interested in veterinary tech, bakery, heavy machinery and becoming a dental assistant. The project is being funded through a 2.2-mill bond issue approved by voters in 2024. The bond will run for 36 years and generate a total of $210 million over its lifespan.
