PREP ROUNDUP: Rameau hits game-winner at buzzer

CLYDE — Maekhiya Rameau hit a contested 3-point shot as time expired to give Sandusky's girls basketball team a 52-50 Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division win over Clyde on Saturday. Clyde's Ariah Farrar hit a late 3 to give the Fliers a one-point lead before Sandusky called timeout with three seconds to play. Rameau cut toward the top of the key before taking the inbound pass from Amari Prentice. She took one dribble before sinking the game-winner. Clyde tried to call a timeout, but Prentice's pass got to Rameau first. "Khiya went too soon, which ended up helping us," Sandusky coach John Winborn said. "She came off a curl and hit it." Rameau topped the Blue Streaks (3-13, 1-6 SBC Lake) with 18 points. Cassidy Stovall hit five 3-pointers on eight attempts to add 15 points for Sandusky. "It feels good to get a win in a close game," Winborn said. "We've had so many close games and we got one to go our way." Reese Daniel scored 14 points to lead Clyde (11-7, 2-5), which played without leading scorer Taitum Jeffrey. Daniel sank a 3-pointer at the second quarter buzzer to give Clyde a 30-19 halftime lead. "We kept chipping away," Winborn said. "We played great defense in the second half and held them scoreless for a stretch." Edison defeated Eastwood (49-26), Seneca East (43-28), Tiffin Calvert (64-10), Carey (59-13) and Patrick Henry (63-18) on Friday. Saturday, the Chargers topped Mohawk (50-27), Hopewell-Loudon (83-0) and Genoa (46-36) before a 60-14 loss to the Blue Streaks in the finals. Freshman Cohen Reer went 9-0 for Edison at 106 pounds. He finished with five pins, one technical fall and three forfeits to earn Most Valuable Wrestler honors for the lightweights. Also for Edison, Mason Hermes finished 9-0 at 126 with six pins and a technical fall, while Joel Smith finished 8-1 at 285 with five pins. Xander Gfell-King was 7-1 at 132. Brayden Barker (113) and Bentley Illuzzi (175) each finished 7-2, while Urijah Ojeda (120) went 6-3 for the Chargers. Monroeville was led by Brycen Dunlap, who went 8-0 at 285 with four pins and four forfeits. Carter Roeder was 6-2 at 132, while Owen Patchen was 4-1 with a medical forfeit at 138 before his tournament was cut short. Rafael Gross finished 9-0 for St. Paul at 165 with six pins, a technical fall, a major decision, and a forfeit. For his efforts, he was named Most Valuable Wrestler at the higher weights. Also for St. Paul, Landon Kennebeck went 7-1 at 165, and Zeke Dvorak (157) and Cam Coetzee (285) each finished 6-3. Perkins wins at Elmwood BLOOMDALE — The Pirates went 5-0 to win the Elmwood Duals. Perkins defeated Northwood (70-5), Liberty-Benton (65-6), Maumee (75-3) and Elmwood (48-30) before topping Napoleon (54-24) in the championship match. Jaycion Everett, Law Davlin and Braxden Martin all went 5-0 for the Pirates. Trinity Crum, De'Shaun Harper, Trey Harvey and Mier Raldon went 4-0. SWIMMING West, Zess win at NWOAC FREMONT — Perkins' Ella West and Max Zess won events at the NWOAC Championships. West finished first in the girls 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.68. Zess touched first in the boys 500 free in 5:12.29. West placed second in the 200 IM (2:19.88) and teamed with Jasele Ninke, Natalie Mitchel and Hayley Henning to take second in the 200 free relay (1:45.94). Perkins' girls finished third out of 13 teams with 255 points. Napoleon took first with 396. Port Clinton was ninth (149). PC's Gabrielle Heilmann was second in the 100 free (57.11). Bryan won the boys title with 385 points. PC was sixth (166) and Perkins took ninth (132). The Redskins' 400 free relay of Jake Adkins, Grant Barnhill, Wyatt Siefke and Lee Higgins placed second in 3:30.53.
