Huron welcomes Officer Woods

HURON — During a recent public meeting, Huron officials introduced and welcomed the city police department's newest officer, Devin Woods. With more than a decade's worth of experience as a police officer, Woods brings with him a bachelor's degree in homeland security and terrorism from Tiffin University. Originally from Wellington, Ohio, Woods has worked in several different law enforcement jobs in both Erie and Ottawa counties: • Woods began his career as a probation officer for Erie County Adult Probation and a police officer for Cedar Point. • He then worked as a corrections deputy for the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. • Most recently, he served as an officer for seven years with Port Clinton police. During this time, he also worked in various regional capacities, which included him being a city detective, a drug task force officer with Ottawa County and as a member of the sheriff's office's SWAT Team. For several years, Woods also served as an executive member of Port Clinton's Fraternal Order of Police Lodge. In this executive role, he enjoyed finding ways to give back to the residents of Port Clinton. "Officer Woods looks forward to becoming an asset of and a trusted representative to the Huron Police Department and the city of Huron," according to a statement from Huron officials. The statement continued: "Officer Woods' short-term goal is to become familiar with the neighborhoods of Huron while getting to know and be trusted by the residents. In the long term, Officer Woods looks forward to growing with the department and assisting with departmental training as needed." "Officer Woods has a wealth of experience and knowledge, including being certified in many areas, such as a marine patrol officer," Huron police Chief Terry Graham said. "We are honored that someone with his experience, education and training has chosen to be an officer with our agency." When not on duty, Woods enjoys golfing, cooking, and spending time with his girlfriend and their dog. During the summer months, he enjoys traveling, whether it is to visit family or camping trips to northern Michigan to go off-roading on their overlanding trails. Fascinated by world history, he would love to visit Europe someday to see some of the relics and locations of the old world. "Silence is sometimes OK. When you speak, make sure it is something that matters," said Woods, referencing the words of his grandfather that have left a lasting impression on him and that have helped to define who he is today.
