Check out City Hall's art gallery opening

SANDUSKY — Those representing Sandusky's public arts and culture commission invite the public to the exhibition opening for the 2026 City Hall Art Gallery. It's scheduled from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5 at Sandusky City Hall, 240 Columbus Ave. It's free and open to the public. The exhibition opening is hosted by the public arts and culture commission in collaboration with Darian Shepherd, local artist and owner of UNDRSTR, whose work is featured in this year's exhibit. This year's exhibit is organized around the theme "Journey" and marks the fifth year of the City Hall Art Gallery's rotating exhibition program. "The event gives the public an opportunity to explore the 2026 gallery exhibit and learn more about upcoming arts projects and opportunities throughout the city," according to an exhibit statement. This exhibition features work by local artists from Sandusky and the surrounding area. Artwork is on continuous display and may be viewed by the public during regular City Hall hours: generally 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Each year, the city issues a public call for artists, typically in October. Submitted works are reviewed and selected by the public arts and culture commission for inclusion in the gallery. Guests attending the opening are invited to view the artwork, enjoy light refreshments and learn more about public art initiatives planned for 2026. Formed in 2018, the public arts and culture commission promotes, facilitates and oversees public art projects that: • Celebrate the city's cultural heritage • Enhance public spaces • Support economic development and tourism • Expand community engagement with the visual arts
