PREP ROUNDUP: Schaefer sets Margaretta's career 3-point record

CASTALIA — With a 3-point basket in the first quarter, Ellyse Schaefer became the Margaretta girls basketball all-time leader in career 3s made Saturday. Schaefer set the record in the Polar Bears' 76-29 Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division win over Edison. Schaefer made two triples for the Division VI No. 2 Margaretta (15-1, 8-0 SBC Bay), giving her 137 for her career. The previous mark was 135 3-pointers made by Eden Palomo. Cassidy Lane led five Margaretta players in double figures with 15 points. Schaefer added 12 points, Addy Fitzthum had 11 points and Renna Keller and Kenadie Saylor each scored 10 points for the Polar Bears. Taylor Moore topped the Chargers (5-10, 1-7) with 10 points. The Fliers had two individual champions: Heath Norris (120 pounds) and Hunter Pollock (126). Norris went 4-0 with three pins and a 10-3 decision. Pollock had two pins and a technical fall among his four victories. Edison also had two champs and finished fourth in the team standings with 174 points. The Chargers' Cohen Reer (106) and Joel Smith (285) each topped the podium. Reer dominated four opponents with pins in 55 seconds and 1:04 and a pair of technical falls. Smith had three pins, including one in 2:41 in the finals. Port Clinton's Malakii Pinkelton was the fifth area individual champion, winning at 190. He had three quick pins before scoring a 5-3 decision against Seneca East's Jackson Gayheart in the finals. Edison's Xander Gfell-King (132) and Clyde's Michael Gessner (144) each finished second.
