Goodwill here to help homeless population

NORWALK — Goodwill Industries of Erie, Huron, Ottawa and Sandusky Counties is asking Huron County-based agencies and organizations to help "count the unhoused in our community." "On Jan. 27, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., communities across Ohio will come together for the Point-in-Time Count — a one-night snapshot of individuals and families experiencing homelessness," according to a local Goodwill statement. "Goodwill is asking local nonprofits and partner agencies to help us reach people we may not otherwise see and help us ensure every person is counted," it continued. For those interacting with the unhoused during the count hours, the local Goodwill wants people to take a four-question survey. It can be accessed by visiting facebook.com/goodwillsquad and searching for a post made on Tuesday, Jan. 20. This survey aims to: • "Measure the number of people experiencing homelessness in our community" • "Identify needs and service gaps in Huron County" • "Secure critical federal and state funding for housing, supportive services and prevention programs" "When people are counted, resources follow," the local Goodwill stated.
