Crews reopen all Edison Bridge lanes

MARGARETTA TWP. — On Tuesday afternoon, the Ohio Department of Transportation completed all repairs to the median occurring a day prior on the Thomas A. Edison Memorial Bridge (Ohio 2). "All lanes of travel are open in both directions," the Erie County Sheriff's Office stated. "Drive safe." What happened? Multiple crashes occurred on the bridge throughout Monday afternoon, contributing to hours of closures. At least two separate crashes involving multiple vehicles, in both the eastbound and westbound lanes, took place in the mid-afternoon. The bridge reopened to one lane of traffic in both directions shortly before 6 p.m. Monday. A semi truck was involved in one of the crashes. A photo shared by the Ohio Department of Transportation shows the front end of the vehicle stuck atop a guard rail with the cab of the vehicle perpendicular to the road and blocking at least one lane. The total number of vehicles involved in the crashes — which came amid wintry weather that caused slippery road surfaces — was not immediately known. No injuries were reported as of Monday evening.
