This belief is incredibly common — and incredibly costly. Many families assume they must drain savings, sell investments, and spend thousands of dollars a month on nursing home care before Medicaid can help. Good planning uses allowed exemptions, follows transfer rules correctly, documents everything, and avoids unintentional penalties and denials. Trying to outsmart Medicaid usually backfires. Doing it correctly protects everyone involved. "All Medicaid programs work the same way." They don't. Ohio has different programs for nursing home care, assisted living waiver programs, and in-home care waivers. Each has its own rules, benefits, and limitations.
