Scam involves door hangers

MARBLEHEAD — Police officers from Marblehead are warning about a scam "going around, which has recently occurred in the Cleveland area." "It's not new: It was happening in the Toledo area two years ago where the possible scammers are hanging these door hangers on your doors, stating that they are 'conducting an investigation under ORC. 4749.0.0.'" Marblehead police called out the issues with these hangers: • "For one, there is no 4749.0 in the Ohio Revised Code, (and) 4749.01 has to do with licensing private investigators and security companies." • And the scammers "want you to contact a private investigator at a listed phone number, they will want your name, address, number written on the card, etc." "If you receive one of these, either fluotrecent orange or green cards, contact your local police department immediately and the Ohio Attorney General's Office," the department noted. "Research indicates it may be a repossession company attempting to find out if the person who is late on their payments lives or resides at that address."
