Very cool: First Catawba Island Ice Shove to occur

CATAWBA ISLAND — The Gideon Owen Wine Co. recently announced details for the inaugural Catawba Island Ice Shove. "This winter, we invite you to slow down, gather close and admire the ice," according to a company statement. "Join us for a brand-new Catawba Island tradition celebrating one of Lake Erie's most powerful and breathtaking natural phenomena where frozen water becomes art, light and inspiration." The event takes place from Feb. 6-8 at the company's location, 3845 E. Wine Cellar Road, Port Clinton. Here's what attendees can expect: • Hand-carved ice sculptures • Glowing ice luminaries lighting Gideon Square • Authentic frozen Lake Erie ice, gathered and displayed • Firepits roaring to keep you warm as you stroll and sip • A one-of-a-kind ice bar, serving winter-inspired cocktails to celebrate the season "When the winds align and the currents shift, Lake Erie's ice presses toward shore, forming towering blue ridges and frozen monuments," the statement read. "Whether the ice is actively moving or standing still, the beauty is undeniable and worth lingering over. Nature provides the spectacle, we provide the gathering."
