Warming center open all week

SANDUSKY — Because of the snow and cold temperatures, Sandusky's warming center — at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Eddy Henry Way — will open at 7 p.m. today. The warming center will also be open at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The shelter allows people to stay until 7 a.m. the following day. People can stay overnight at the warming shelter, no questions asked, to receive shelter and a place protected from the bitter elements. The warming center provides people with a cot to sleep. Many local nonprofits — including Community Solutions of Erie, OHgo, Victory Kitchen, among others — donate food for those who are hungry. A team of volunteers brings in the food, sets up these temporary beds and provides any other help, within reason, guests might need. For those needing a ride, people can call Sandusky police's non-emergency line, 419-627-5863, for a free lift. The red and green lines for Sandusky Transit, meanwhile, make a stop at or near the church.
