WR Diontae Johnson is fourth-highest draft pick in Toledo history

TOLEDO — University of Toledo wide receiver Diontae Johnson (Ruskin, Fla.) was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft on Friday.Johnson, the 66th overall pick of the draft, is the fifth Rocket to be drafted in the past three years. Kareem Hunt (third round), Michael Roberts (fourth) and Treyvon Hester (seventh) were selected in the 2017 draft, while Logan Woodside was chosen in the seventh round of last year's draft.Johnson is the fourth-highest draft pick ever for a Rocket, and the highest since John Greco who was the No. 65 pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2008. Defensive lineman Dan Williams was the highest pick in Rocket history, the No. 11 overall pick in 1993."I'm feeling so good, so excited. I didn't think I would be drafted this early but everything was in God's hands," said Johnson. "I'm thrilled to be a Steeler, to be part of such a great organization.""I just want to thank Coach (Jason) Candle and everyone at the University of Toledo for helping me get to this point. I could have never done it without them. I'm looking for some of my teammates to get drafted, too."Johnson was a two-time All-MAC selection at wide receiver, punt returner and kickoff returner. He was also named the MAC's 2018 Special Team's Player of the Year. He finished his career with 137 receptions, 2,276 yards and 24 TD receptions in three seasons.Johnson caught 14 passes in his freshman season before sitting out his sophomore campaign due to injury. He broke out as a junior, catching 74 passes for a school-record 1,278 yards and 13 scores. He was named first-team All-MAC at wide receiver and punter returner, and second-team all-league at kickoff returner, the first Rocket to make All-MAC at three positions since Bernard Reedy in 2012.As a senior, Johnson led the Rockets with 49 receptions and 761 receiving yards.
