Locals help out humane society

SANDUSKY — If they had tails, those at the Humane Society of Erie County would uncontrollably wag them in delight when considering the recent generosity shown by community members. Those at the Sandusky-based nonprofit thanked people who donated items and/or their time to care for animals. With excerpts provided by the society, this would include: • Houndstooth Professional Pet Services "for the awesome and much-needed donations." • The Keegan and Lizzi families, who "blessed our shelter with an amazing donation of much-needed items off of our wishlist. We cannot thank you enough." • Those representing Cedar Point, who were thanked "for donating your time and volunteering." Melissa Gundlach, the humane society's executive director, also expressed her appreciation. "The generosity that our community shows around the holiday season and year-round is so very important to the nonprofits in our area like us," Gundlach said. "The donations and volunteer hours that we are blessed with allow us to continue our important work each day," she added. "Without them, we literally would not be here. Since we receive no funding of any kind from anywhere, our donors and volunteers allow us to operate." "Our wishlist is available on our website as well as our Chewy.com and Amazon.com wish lists," Gundlach said. "Each shift that a volunteer helps us allows more hands-on care for the animals in our care. It allows us time to work with our animals on training, grooming, walking and more."
