Police arrest woman on Ga. threats warrant

SANDUSKY — Sandusky police recently arrested a woman on an out-of-state warrant. Kelly M. Szewczyk, 52, of the 800 block of Lost Lake Road, Port Clinton, was arrested on the warrant from the Floyd County Sheriff's Office in Georgia. The charge is a felony count of terroristic threats and acts. Just before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, officers went to a residence in the 800 block of Curran St. in Sandusky to attempt to arrest Szewczyk on the warrant. They were aware she was residing there due to her being involved in a welfare check at that address, according to a Sandusky police report. Police began monitoring the home and observed a truck pull up, a man get out and go in, then return to the truck and drive off, the report states. Officers stopped the truck and discovered the driver was a family member of Szewczyk. He confirmed to police that she was in the residence. Police set up a perimeter around the residence and attempted to get Szewczyk to answer the door, but she refused, the report states. At one point, an officer reportedly saw the wanted woman through a second-floor window. When Szewczyk noticed the officer, she reportedly shut the curtains. The next step to effect Szewczyk's arrest was to obtain a search warrant. With a warrant in hand, officers entered the residence. Szewczyk then walked downstairs and was taken into custody. Due to Szewczyk clearly refusing officers' commands to exit the home, she was additionally charged with one misdemeanor count of obstructing official business. As of late Thursday, she is incarcerated in Erie County Jail under a hold from the Floyd County Sheriff's Office while she awaits extradition. The accusation On Oct. 29, police officers in Rome, Georgia, were called to a home in reference to death threats. When they arrived, they spoke to a female resident who claimed that Szewczyk threatened to kill her over text message, according to a police report. Szewczyk was allegedly upset that the woman slept with a relative. The message reportedly said she was coming to Georgia the next day to kill the victim. A second message said it was over for the victim, the report states. When officers called Szewczyk, they noted that she sounded intoxicated but allegedly admitted to the threat. Szewczyk initially told the officer she was going to drive to Georgia the next day but then recanted, saying that she could not take the time off from work. She claimed that she was just upset about what occurred and she was not going to do anything to the victim, the report states. The officer recontacted the reported victim, who wanted to pursue charges. The officer told the woman that if Szewczyk showed up the next day or called or sent a text message to immediately call 911.
