Firelands spotlights volunteer Janet Lippus

SANDUSKY — For January, Firelands Health placed its monthly volunteer spotlight on Janet Lippus. She began volunteering for the organization in 2018, currently helping at Firelands Regional Medical Center's information desk. "Her friendly smile is often one of the first you see when you walk through our doors," according to a health care organizational statement. Lippus is a lifelong resident of Sandusky where she and her husband raised their three boys. She's now the grandmother of four grandchildren, "who keep life fun and full of love," Lippus said. Lippus is a graduate of Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic High School and attended the Ohio State School of Cosmetology. Before having children, she worked at and managed Steep's Beauty Salon in the Sandusky Plaza. She later owned her own salon, Miss Jan's, on Milan Road. She was also a member of the Sandusky Ski Club, which gave her the opportunity to ski in Ohio, Michigan, Colorado, Vermont, Pennsylvania, New York and Canada. Lippus was a stay-at-home mom until she was 50 years old. She then began working as a bus driver and playground aide for Perkins Schools. She worked there for 17 years and has been retired for another 17 years. Shortly after retiring, Lippus began volunteering at Firelands Health. She also currently works one night a week at Chick-fil-A Sandusky. In her free time, Lippus enjoys sewing. She creates angel gowns for Firelands Health and has sewn many items for her children and husband. She said her favorite part of volunteering is how welcoming the employees are and all the new volunteers. Lippus finds Firelands to be a pleasant place to volunteer and enjoys Tuesday mornings, reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. "Thank you, Jan, for your dedication, warm smile and the joy you bring to everyone at Firelands Health," the statement read.
