PREP ROUNDUP: Perkins girls win SBC Lake; PC sweeps Bay

Perkins' girls swim team outdistanced Tiffin Columbian 206-174 to win the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division championship Saturday in the Pirates' home pool. Perkins' Ella West was recognized as Outstanding Performer in the girls' meet. West and freshman Hayley Henning led the Pirates with 20 points each. West won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:19 and touched first in the 100 breast in 1:09.21. Henning won the 50 free (26.29) and 100 free (58.91). West and Henning also swam on the winning 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. The Perkins boys team finished second behind Vermilion, which won 154 to 150.5. Max Zess led the Pirates with 20 points while Preston Miller added 16. In the Lake boys meet, Clyde's Eli Morgan was named boys Outstanding Performer after winning the 200 free (1:49.75) and 500 (4:56.92) for the third straight year. Vermilion's Cole Rini won the 200 individual medley (2:06.10), 100 breaststroke (1:01) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay. In Port Clinton, the Redskins swept the boys and girls team titles. The PC boys edged St. Mary Central Catholic by one point, 187-186. Grant Barnhill won two individual events for PC (200 free, 1:58.14; 500 free, 5:37.07) and swam on the winning 400 free relay that clinched the team title. SMCC's Brian Serna won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.48) and swam on a pair of winning relays. Port Clinton's girls scored 197 points and runner-up Margaretta finished at 182. PC's Gabrielle Heilmann and Halle Puffenberger each won two events and swam on two winning relays. Heilmann finished first in the 50 free (25.66) and 100 back (1:07.32) while Puffenberger won the 200 individual medley (2:26.39) and 100 breaststroke (1:15.26). James — the top local finisher in the event — won four matches to get to the finals, where he dropped a 4-2 decision to Perrysburg's Brody Bauman. Perkins' Law Davlin finished third at 165 and Bellevue's Ben Jacobs was third at 150. St. Paul's Rafael Gross took fifth at 165. PC gets 2 champs at Woodmore ELMORE — Port Clinton placed sixth out of 25 teams at the Woodmore "A" Classic. Gavin Cornell and Elliot Laird won individual championships. Cornell was named Most Valuable Wrestler.
