Former reporter returns to 'Jeopardy!'

SANDUSKY — A two-time "Jeopardy!" champion with area ties aims to win even more money and achieve additional fame. Jason Singer, a former Sandusky resident who also worked at the Register, will appear on the popular game show's 2026 "Jeopardy!" Champions Wildcard tournament. People in the Sandusky area can watch Singer compete at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on local CBS affiliates. Singer and other recent winners are vying for a berth in the show's Tournament of Champions. The Tournament of Champions is a "prestigious annual tournament featuring the season's top winners competing for a large cash prize and bragging rights," according to a summary. "I will be playing Harvey Silikovitz and Cameron Berry, two of the greatest trivia players in the world, in a tournament consisting of 15 of the greatest champions and best people you could ever meet," Singer said. "Set your DVRs, get your popcorn ready, and let's get ready to learn." What happened last time? Singer, who now lives in Maine, won $48,800 during his two wins over three episodes this past summer. "They taped all three episodes on the same day, and I had trouble sleeping the night before — maybe three hours. Nerves are real," Singer said after his string of episodes aired. "My brain wasn't working as well as it should've been. Never really had my 'A' game at any point this week. Very frustrating and disappointing." Singer followed the lead of his wife, Susan McMillan, who competed on the show in 2021. McMillan was also a reporter for the Register and Sanduskian. McMillan won $35,000 and came out victorious during her two-episode run. "It's pretty cool Susan and I are both 'Jeopardy!' champions, an incredibly rare feat for a married couple," said Singer, noting it's happened on occasion in the past. "And Sandusky was such a major part of our journey: both the incredible journalists we worked with and all the wonderful people who make up northern Ohio. We wouldn't be the people we are today without Sandusky." Singer referenced the time he and McMillan lived in Sandusky and worked at the Register from 2008 to 2011. Singer covered local government and human interest stories while McMillan primarily concentrated on education. McMillan and Singer watch "Jeopardy!" for many reasons. In no particular order, they're trivia diehards — often hosting game nights with friends — it's a bonding activity, and they can broaden their mindsets with interesting nuggets of information. The two even appeared on "Good Morning America" shortly after Singer's run to talk about their wins.
