Crash closes portion of Ohio 269

MARGARETTA TWP. — A portion of Martins Point Road (Ohio 269) was closed on Monday afternoon as a result of a truck crash. Just after 4 p.m., first responders were called to an area of the road about 1,500 feet south of the Ohio 2 east on-ramp for the report of a semi that went into the ditch. When they arrived, they found a five-axle truck on its side, partially in the ditch, partially on the road. The rear of the truck appeared to be deeply encased in mud from the water-filled ditch. The driver and sole occupant was extricated through the windshield with help from a passerby, according to Erie County sheriff's Lt. Craig Ritz. The truck was hauling water, Ritz said. Martins Point Road was closed between Ohio 2 and Sandusky-Lima Road (U.S. 6) for three-and-a-half hours, according to Sgt. Joe Wentworth with the state patrol. Deputies called in Tim Jonovich, director of the Erie County Emergency Management Agency, due to the possibility of diesel fuel leaking into the ditch, which is in close proximity to Sandusky Bay. Margaretta Township EMTs treated the driver for minor injuries. He refused transportation to the hospital. The driver, a 39-year-old Port Clinton man, was cited for failure to control and charged with OVI, Wentworth said.
