Sandusky boys, Perkins girls win SBC tournament

Sandusky's boys and Perkins' girls won team titles at the Sandusky Bay Conference bowling tournament Saturday at Rebman's Recreation in Lorain. Sandusky's boys won the SBC Lake title with a total score of 3,912. Perkins was second at 3,726 and Port Clinton was third at 3,691. Blue Streaks freshman Caiden Brengartner was the Lake's top individual, rolling a 669 series. He had games of 246, 211 and 212 and got hot after a slow start. "He had to turn it on a little bit," Sandusky coach Bob Dickman said. "he started with a couple open frames to start the first game. The shot was not easy; the oil pattern was more of an inside-out shot. "After that start he threw seven (strikes) in a row. He got lined up quick. When he hits his mark, good things happen." The Blue Streaks as a whole started slow but were up by 110 pins after the first game. Each team rolled three individual games then six Baker games. Sandusky was in the lead at 2,777 after individual games before rolling the best Baker scores. "After the bad start they got it together," Dickman said. "I was very proud of the way they responded." Joining Brengartner on the all-tournament team (top eight) from Sandusky were seniors Landen Ebeling and Blake Ott. Ebeling had games of 182, 244 and 179 for a 605 series. Ott rolled games of 204, 173 and 212 for a 589. The win was Sandusky's second Lake tournament triumph in three years. The Streaks are 7-0 halfway through the Lake dual season. "We've got some tough ones coming up," Dickman said. "Two against Tiffin Columbian and two against Perkins. Those will be very competitive." Perkins' boys were led by sophomore Hunter Johnson, who was runner-up among individuals. He had games of 201, 244 and 213 for a 658 series. Tucker Deering added games of 192, 173 and 214 for a 579 series. Deering, a junior, is one of two Pirates who bowl with two hands. Port Clinton's Nathan Wallace was fourth with a 619 series. Perkins' girls finished with a 3,555 total to defeat runner-up Willard (3,415) and Columbian (3,318). Senior Olivia Lizzi finished third overall to lead the Pirates. She rolled games of 223, 181 and 185 for a 589 series. Oliviana Coffman was fifth overall with a 548 series (177, 184, 187). "Our girls really maintained things the whole way," Perkins coach Cathy Lizzi said. Lilly Ryerson added a 518 series — her best score this season — and Paige Loris rolled a 508. It was the second straight SBC tournament title for the Perkins girls, who are off to an undefeated start in conference play this season. "They're doing well so far," Lizzi said. "We won the conference and won the Huron Baker tournament in December and placed in the top eight in the Kickoff Classic in Columbus in early December." Vermilion's Bella Phillips was the Lake's top individual girl with a 647 series. She had games of 201, 217 and 229. Sandusky sophomore Violet Rose led the Blue Streaks with a consistent 616 series, good for second overall. She rolled games of 203, 210 and 203. Makayla Popke added a 509 series for Sandusky. Edison's boys won the Bay Division title with a 3,852 total. Huron was second at 3,658. Huron won the Bay girls title with a 2,995. Edison was second at 2,665. A total of 15 SBC schools participate in bowling.
