Police dept. going after unpaid parking tickets

PERKINS TWP. — One local police department set a new year's resolution to collect payments on old parking tickets. On Saturday, Perkins police announced how its officers will actively go after people who haven't settled a bill for old parking violations occurring within the township. Parking violations include cars illegally parked: • In restricted zones, such as a handicap spot • By fire hydrants • On roads not allowing on-street parking "As a courtesy, an officer will be personally contacting individuals who have an outstanding parking ticket on file to notify them of the balance owed," according to a department statement. "This outreach is intended to give individuals the opportunity to take care of their ticket before any further action is taken." If the ticket issue isn't resolved through this process, then, "It may be forwarded to the court where it could potentially be turned into a warrant." For those who may believe they may have an unpaid parking ticket or have questions, officers encourage people to contact the department. Its non-emergency phone number is 419-627-0824.
