PREP ROUNDUP: No. 1 Bellevue beats Copley; Leimeister pours in 35 as Edison wins

AKRON — Bellevue improved to 9-0 overall with a convincing 58-41 girls basketball win over Copley on Monday. Mazie Gracemyer paced the Lady Red with 17 points and Carrington Savage added 15 on five 3-point baskets. The Lady Red led 23-17 after one quarter, then limited the Indians to just 24 total points over the last three quarters. Copley, ranked No. 5 in Division III by MaxPreps, fell to 7-2. Kaitlyn Turinsky added 10 points for Bellevue, which has won 25 straight games over the last two seasons. Bellevue, 9-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state in Division IV, hosts Norwalk at 6 p.m. Friday in a matchup of teams tied atop the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division at 3-0. Reer, a 106-pounder, did not allow a point in three wins on the first day of the tourney. He scored a 7-0 decision in the first round before a pair of 15-0 technical falls. Reer, the No. 2 seed, will face sixth-seeded Jordan Bates from Beaver in one semifinal Tuesday. Top-seeded Thales Silva from Buchanan meets fifth-seeded Collin Bagdonas from Perrysburg in the first semifinal. Edison's Mason Hermes won three matches (10-9, 3-0, 18-3 tech fall) before falling 13-2 to Perrysburg's Grey Burnett in the quarters. Edison's Brayden Barker got a bye and won an 11-2 decision at 113 before falling 6-1 in the third round. The Chargers' Xander Gfell-King (132) made it to the Round of 16 before dropping a 14-3 decision. Monroeville heavyweight Brycen Dunlap won two decisions before dropping a 6-4 decision in the third round. 4 PC wrestlers in quarterfinals at Harding MARION — Port Clinton finished in eighth place after Day 1 of the 41-team Marion Harding Classic. The Redskins scored 43 points. Powerhouse Lakewood St. Edward is in first place with 62. Advancing to Tuesday's quarterfinal round for PC were Elliot Laird (144 pounds), Jace Cornell (bye and two pins at 157), Caleb Spencer (bye and two pins at 175) and Malakii Pinkleton (190). Bellevue puts 6 in semifinals KENSTON — Six Bellevue wrestlers reached the semifinals on Day 1 of the Kenston Invitational. Thomas Reesman (113), Owen Sterritt (132), Nolan Hartman (144), Ben Jacobs (150), Billy Sberna (165) and Deacon Nunez (285) all will wrestle Tuesday for a spot in the finals. Norwalk's Gavin Lepley (165), Nico Helton (175) and Sam Pierce (190) also advanced to the semifinals.
