Basketball camp provides assist to kids

CLYDE — On Saturday, prior to Christmas, those taking part in the second-annual Giving for Jesus Camp at Clyde High School provided a major assist to lesser-fortunate local children. Trey Ruhlman — a 2019 Bellevue High School graduate who owns and operates GOAT Training, short for Growth on All Tiers — organized the camp for area youth basketball players. The event raised nearly $500 and collected more than 100 toys, all going to underprivileged area kids. This would include those in Erie County's foster care system. Each year, the county's children services department organizes a gift-giving initiative. "Over 45 athletes showed up, worked hard and gave with full hearts," Ruhlman said. "That's what it's all about." Ruhlman said he's "truly blessed" to coordinate camps like this and "use basketball as a way to serve others." He also credited: • Fellow coach Ricky Salazar "for stepping in, helping lead and being a huge part of making this happen; Couldn't do it without you." • Each person who participated in the camp; "Thank you to every athlete, parent and supporter who showed up and gave back.
