Monroeville legend Logan Stieber retires from competitive wrestling

One of the best athletes the area has ever produced is calling it quits.Logan Stieber, a 2010 Monroeville graduate and one of four wrestlers to win four titles in the history of NCAA wrestling during his collegiate career at Ohio State, says he's retiring from international wrestling competition. Stieber has signed a coaching contract with the Ohio Regional Training Center (RTC) and plans to open his own wrestling academy in the Columbus area."I've been excited about coaching for a long time, can't wait to start," Stieber said via Twitter.Stieber concluded his Buckeye career with a record of 119-3, boasting the highest winning percentage (.975) in school history.Stieber's historic run included a pair of undefeated seasons when he went 27-0 as a sophomore in 2013 and wrapped up his career with a 29-0 senior campaign (2015). Stieber helped Ohio State to the 2015 national championship — the program's first — as the Buckeyes led wire-to-wire during the wrestling championships in St. Louis. He became the Big Ten's 14th four-time conference champion the same season.After graduating from Ohio State, Stieber made an immediate splash on the international stage as the 2016 World Champion at 61 kilograms. He made the United States World Team in 2017 and 2018.Stieber finished his Monroeville High career as a four-time state champion with a record of 184-1. His 179 straight wins is an OHSAA record.Stieber was part of the Eagles' foursome that included Cam Tessari, younger brother Hunter Stieber and Chris Phillips. They each finished as four-time state champions in a five-year span.
