WRESTLING/SWIMMING: Edison's Reer takes 2nd at prestigious Ironman

CUYAHOGA FALLS — Edison freshman Cohen Reer finished second over the weekend at the prestigious Ironman wrestling tournament at Walsh Jesuit High School. In Saturday's 106-pound championship match, Connor Maddox from Westfield, Ind., scored a 9-6 sudden victory overtime win over Reer. Reer won his first match of the tournament by technical fall and scored a major decision in the Round 16. In the quarterfinals, Reer won a 10-9 decision and decisioned Blair Academy's Jack Anello 3-1 in the semifinals. Reer is Edison's first placer at the Ironman, considered one of the best wrestling tournaments in the country. Clyde takes 3rd at Clear Fork invite BELLVILLE — Clyde scored 192.5 points to finish third in the Clear Fork Invitational. Clyde had three individual runners-up: Heath Norris (120 pounds), Hunter Pollack (126) and Mason Holden (165). The Fliers' Blake Andres (113), George Vastag (132) and Michael Gester (150) finished third. Clear Fork won the event with 315.5 points. Vermilion placed fourth with 167 points. The Sailors' Aiden Kyser was the only area individual champion, winning a 10-0 major decision in the 157-pound final. St. Mary Central Catholic's Benny Byington (138) and Ben James (150) each finished second. Vermilion had two freshman runners-up: Mack Mooney (175) and Austin Sergent (190). Perkins' Davlin MVP at Highland invite MEDINA — Perkins' Law Davlin was the 165-pound champion and won Most Valuable Wrestler honors at the Medina Highland Invitational. Jaycion Everett and Cooper Cisco each finished second for the Pirates and Landon Flores finished third. SWIMMING Port Clinton boys win A-Behr FREMONT — Port Clinton's boys won the A-Behr Blue Streak Classic, which took place at Fremont Ross High School. PC's Lee Higgins won two individual events (50 free, 100 backstroke) and swam on two winning relays. Clyde's Eli Morgan set meet records in the 200 free (1:49.02) and 500 free (4:58.18). Vermilion's Cole Rini set a meet record in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.88) to lead the Sailors to a runner-up team finish.
