Dalton Farms deeply rooted in Huron County

WAKEMAN — For more than 170 years, Dalton Farms has been rooted in the Huron County countryside with the first family tax records dating back to 1851. Seventh-generation farmers Rebecca and Edward Dalton carry on that legacy today. More than 30 years ago, Edward and his father began selling freezer beef, laying the foundation for what would become The Meat Barn, a farm store housed inside a converted grain bin. Since launching the store in 2020, Dalton Farms has grown to a 400-cattle count, all raised right on the farm and sold directly to customers. "All of the beef we sell is raised right here," Rebecca said. "It's us you'll see when you walk in, not employees. You're buying directly from the farmer." The farm's best-sellers include ground beef and hamburger patties that customers swear "don't compare to anything from a big-box store." Every vendor product sold inside The Meat Barn is hand-selected by Rebecca herself. "If I don't love it, I don't carry it." Dalton Farms is also known for its deep community ties. The family hosts Markets on the Farm each summer, bringing together 30 to 40 local vendors and thousands of visitors, and an annual Farm-to-Table Dinner that celebrates local food and craftsmanship. The family also supports local schools, helps out with the Caring Community of Wakeman food pantry and serves as FFA advisory board members for Western Reserve Schools.
