'Shrek the Musical' makes way onto stage

FREMONT — Beginning tonight, the Fremont Community Theatre will present "Shrek the Musical" for two consecutive weekends. "Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks film and the Broadway smash hit, 'Shrek the Musical' brings everyone's favorite green ogre, his wisecracking sidekick Donkey and a host of hilarious fairy-tale misfits to the Fremont stage," according to a community theater statement. "Audiences will be transported to a big, bright, beautiful world filled with laughter, catchy songs and a heartwarming message about acceptance and friendship," it added. Directed by Cyndi Hineline, "The production features a talented local cast, vibrant costumes and spectacular sets that bring the beloved story to life," the statement read. The show's leads include Jonathan Wright as Shrek, Kayleigh Dominish as Fiona, Tyler Parrett as Donkey and Luke Bontrager as Lord Farquaad "with a dynamic supporting cast of 20 additional performers portraying iconic characters like Dragon, Pinocchio, the Three Little Pigs and more," the statement noted. Performances take place at: • 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays — Dec. 5-6, 12-13 • 2 p.m. on Sundays — Dec. 7, 14 All shows take place at the Fremont Community Theatre, 1551 Dickinson St., Fremont.
