Victory Kitchen feeds hundreds

SANDUSKY — Victory Kitchen is a blessing to many and for different reasons. The Sandusky-based nonprofit provides free hot meals, pantry goods, showers, spiritual support and other necessities. On Wednesday, Victory Kitchen hosted its annual Thanksgiving dinner. Community members also took home various food items during the pantry giveaway that was taking place at the same time. Chef Chad Robles said volunteers prepared 28 turkeys that morning. Those who visited Victory Kitchen received a full Thanksgiving meal: turkey, mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes, corn, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, dinner roll and pumpkin pie. More than 500 people received a meal and shopped at the pantry. Robles, who has been cooking for Victory Kitchen for about 16 years, said the holidays are a rewarding experience. "At one time, I was on the other side looking in," Robles said. "I was able to turn around and give back. It's funny how life goes full circle." Robles shared that Victory Kitchen saved his life. There was a time when he was an addict and going through a lot of hard times, he said. He went to Victory Kitchen, was able to get sober, got involved in the church and, eventually, got married. "I got my life back together," Robles said. He's been able to watch other people change their lives by becoming sober, obtaining jobs and helping within the church. Victory Kitchen is an outreach ministry of Victory Temple. Robles thanks God for the memories he's made through Victory Kitchen and the people he has met along the way. He enjoys cooking meals for the community. "Victory Kitchen is more than just a free hot meal," Robles said. "It's a lifesaver for me."
