Norwalk regains its lead in Firelands Challenge

MILAN TWP. — Norwalk Schools reclaimed the top spot in the Firelands Challenge rankings in a match that saw the team earn the highest single-round point total so far this year. Results from the fourth match led to changes in the overall standings this season: • Norwalk took Huron's spot in the lead; Huron dropped to third place • Edison took Perkins' fifth-place spot; As a result, Perkins dropped out of the top five Norwalk Schools, Western Reserve and Monroeville's teams went against each other in the fourth match. The Truckers won the match and jumped to the top-ranking spot after taking the lead in the first category of questions. Norwalk finished with 72 points, Western Reserve got 20 points and Monroeville scored 15. Huron's team, which was previously in first place, went up against teams from St. Paul and Lakota in the fourth match. St. Paul came out on top by taking the lead in the first half and keeping it until the end. The final scores were St. Paul 44, Huron 38 and Lakota 18. Edison, who currently has 13 consecutive championships in the challenge, won its match against Perkins and Oak Harbor by leading throughout the match. The final scores for this match were Edison 57, Perkins 38 and Oak Harbor 11. Other match scores included: • Danbury 35, Willard 20 and Margaretta 14 • St. Mary 51, New London 21 and Bellevue 16 • Port Clinton 58, South Central 23 and Sandusky 18 The top five schools and their cumulative scores are: • Norwalk 224 • Port Clinton 214 • Huron 201 • St. Mary 198 • Edison 187 Firelands Challenge is an academic competition for local high schools organized by North Point Educational Service Center. The students compete to answer questions from numerous academic subjects.
