Red Cross provides aid to those in need

The American Red Cross of North Central Ohio chapter provides services throughout Erie, Hancock, Putnam, Wyandot, Seneca, Huron,and Lorain counties. The chapter's executive director, Todd James, said that it provides services to people of all ages and backgrounds and serves as a critical source of hope and relief for individuals facing emergencies. "The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors," James said. James notes that the Red Cross makes an impact locally every day, often in ways many residents never see. Much of the organization's work involves responding to local disasters—most commonly home fires. When families lose their homes, belongings, or sense of safety, Red Cross volunteers are often the first to arrive, providing emergency shelter, food, clothing, health services, crisis counseling, and help with navigating long-term recovery. The organization provides a variety of services, including free smoke alarm installation, and answers emergency calls from military families seeking to reach their service member during times of crisis. "Our goals for 2026 are to continue providing aid and comfort to those affected by disasters, to teach children, families and communities how to prepare for disasters before they happen and to continue to support our amazing local volunteers as they deliver our mission," James said.
