Former trooper takes plea deal

NORWALK — A former Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper recently accepted a plea agreement for her case related to a February crash. Tashawna M. Berry, 38, of the 3100 block of Hartland Center Road, Collins, pleaded guilty to one count of physical control of a vehicle while under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor. Additionally, Berry pleaded guilty to one count of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony. The felony charge could potentially be dismissed if Berry completes an intervention program. For the physical control charge, she received a six-month sentence with one day of jail time credit and 179 days suspended. Berry was additionally placed on three years of probation. For the improper handling charge, she was ordered to spend 30 days in jail or on house arrest with electronic monitoring. Berry was also ordered to undergo an alcohol abuse evaluation and receive treatment and counseling, according to court records. The patrol previously said that Berry was fired after the incident.
